Upgrading to Ubuntu 8.04 LTS Hardy Heron

Yup. I’ve succesfully managed to upgrade my ubuntu box from 7.10 Gutsy Gibbon to 8.04 LTS Hardy Heron. Well, it is somewhat fun and quite easy to upgrade. I haven’t got the chance to try new installation, but what good will it bring when you could –just– upgrade, anyway?

So, for you who might want to upgrade without have to reinstall from scratch, this is what you gotta do. Turn on you update manager (System – Administration – Update Manager). Update. And you’ll get notification of new version available, which is Ubuntu 8.04 LTS. Click it, and let the magic happens.

I was downloading updates from indika, so it was quite fast (at least for me :p).

But then it was stopped and failed to get necessary package. Then it came to mind that Indika might not have the latest release yet. So I checked the download page on Ubuntu site, and I found out that I supposed to download from Foss.

To change the repository, you could refer to this page. After that, the manager will update the packages, ask you couple question about your preferences on configuration files (either you want to keep old one, or replace them), and ask you to restart.

So I restarted, and voila. Welcome Hardy Heron! :-)

PS. My experience on using this version will come up next!
